Chrome Passwords Backup&Restore - Export/import passwords from Google Chrome

Why Chrome Passwords Backup&Restore?

I needed to reinstall my Windows XP system, but i realized, that there is no simple way how to export passwords from Chrome Password Manager and import them back into Google Chrome browser in fresh Windows installation. This is caused by Chrome encryption routines, because passwords stored using Chrome are encrypted via WinAPI using Windows user credentials. You can't simply copy Your Chrome profile to another Windows user profile, or to another Windows machine. If you do so, passwords will be lost.

Of course, You can write down all Your passwords and enter them again, or You may try to sync Your passwords using Your Google Account, or You may use third party extension as Chrome Password Manager replacement, or?

So Chrome Passwords Backup&Restore was born, simple tool, which will let You backup and restore Your passwords from Chrome/Chromium Password Manager.

  1. Download and install recent Java Runtime Enviroment from http://www.java.com/en/download/
  2. Update Your Chrome browser by clicking on wrench icon and displaying About...
  3. Download Chrome Passwords Backup&Recovery and unzip it into a folder.
  4. Windows: Run "chromepasswordsbackuprestore.exe"
